The crash happened around 7:55 p.m., prompting a heavy law enforcement response and forcing the closure of the northbound lanes of US 27.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office
, deputies were dispatched to investigate a vehicle-pedestrian crash at the intersection, and preliminary information indicates a vehicle struck the teenager while he was riding his scooter. The agency described the boy's injuries as apparently serious and said he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Driver Stayed at the Scene as Lanes Shut Down
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, per the sheriff's office. Investigators have not released further details about how the crash unfolded, and the sheriff's office has not said when the closed lanes might reopen to traffic.

A 52-year-old scooter driver died in a crash with a car on US 27 near Davenport around 11:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, according to WTSP. Years earlier, in July 2022, a pedestrian was struck and killed in the Four Corners area, according to the Daily Commercial. Thursday's crash remains under investigation, and no additional details about the teenager's condition, the driver's identity, or the cause of the collision have been released.
