A 26-year-old Temple Hills man is facing murder charges after his 13-month-old son was found unresponsive and later died at a hospital, with the county medical examiner ruling the death a homicide caused by blunt force trauma. Alwin Strachan is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and child abuse in connection with the death of his son, Kyro Strachan.
According to CBS News, police officers responded to a home in the 3200 block of Curtis Drive at 11:15 p.m. last Friday, September 18, where they found Kyro not breathing. First responders began life-saving measures at the scene, but the boy was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The county medical examiner's office performed an autopsy and declared the case a homicide, ruling that Kyro's cause of death was blunt force trauma. Police said Strachan was involved in injuring Kyro, resulting in the boy's death, and officers took him into custody before he was transported to the Department of Corrections.
Charges Filed by Prince George's County Police
The Prince George's County Police Department announced the charges against Strachan, who lives in Temple Hills. The case has been assigned the number 26-0047521, per the same account.

Part of a String of Similar Cases in the Region
Kyro's death follows a string of comparable infant-death cases that surfaced in the Washington, D.C. region over the past year, though the circumstances in each case differ. In late December, a Prince George's County father was investigated in the death of 4-month-old Kairo Brooks, who was found unresponsive at a Suitland apartment, according to a report from The Washington Post. Fox Baltimore separately reported that 24-year-old Khalil Brooks-Clarke was charged with first- and second-degree murder and child abuse in that case.
And in Virginia this past spring, 28-year-old Misael Lopez Gomez was charged with second-degree murder and felony child abuse after a medical examiner cited blunt force trauma in the death of his baby, according to WUSA9. The Strachan case remains under investigation by Prince George's County police.
