Prince George’s County police received a call about a shooting at 7:15 a.m. at the apartment complex on Fisher Road, according to NBC Washington. The woman identified her boyfriend as the person who shot her and described his vehicle, the station reported.
What police have reported
Around 7:25 a.m., officers responding to the call saw an SUV matching that description in a shopping-center parking lot in the 4800 block of St. Barnabas Road near Raleigh Road, NBC Washington reported. The driver was the only person inside. Officers found him dead from what police believed was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and recovered a gun at the scene, according to the report.
Police believe the man found in the SUV was the shooting suspect, but his name had not been released as of Tuesday. The woman was reported in stable condition at a hospital, NBC Washington noted.
Maryland context on intimate-partner violence
In testimony to the Maryland Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, Sen. Shelly Hettleman cited figures stating that 56 Marylanders died due to intimate partner violence in 2022 and that 75% were killed with a firearm, according to her testimony. Those statewide figures do not establish a motive or history in this case.
