A Tesla Cybercab has made its way into Old Sacramento, adding the historic waterfront district to the growing list of places where the automaker's futuristic, steering-wheel-free taxi has turned up unannounced. The sighting was captured on video.

The Sacramento appearance fits a pattern playing out across the country this month as Tesla pushes its Cybercab further into public view. Tesla began producing the two-seat vehicle in April and launched it into paid service in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 3, according to TownLift. The company markets the Cybercab as a fully autonomous fleet that runs on artificial intelligence and can be summoned through an app, per the same account.
Sightings Piling Up in Utah
Sacramento isn't the only place where locals have caught the odd, mirrorless vehicle rolling through town. A gold Cybercab was photographed on Sept. 11 at the intersection of Bonanza Drive and Deer Valley Drive in Park City, Utah, and a driver was visible behind the wheel in that vehicle, TownLift reported. A community sighting tracker has logged 14 Cybercab reports in the Salt Lake City area since early August, the outlet noted.
Federal Regulators Take a Closer Look
The Cybercab's rapid spread has drawn attention from federal safety officials. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a review this month into how Tesla self-certified the vehicle — which lacks a steering wheel, pedals and mirrors — as compliant with federal safety standards, per TownLift's reporting.
For now, the details of the Old Sacramento sighting remain limited to what appeared in the video report: a Cybercab, in the heart of the historic district, joining a list of unexpected appearances stretching from Utah's ski country.
