Police are searching for three thieves accused of robbing a 38-year-old woman on a southbound D train near the East 161st Street-Yankee Stadium subway station in the Bronx. The suspects allegedly crept up behind her before making off with her wallet, which held $500 in cash, credit cards and other personal items.
According to News12, the three suspects approached the woman from behind while she rode the train before snatching her wallet; the stolen credit cards were later used twice at commercial establishments.
What Investigators Are Still Trying to Pin Down
The station where the robbery unfolded, East 161st Street-Yankee Stadium, sits at a busy transit hub near the ballpark, making it a heavily trafficked stop for commuters and fans alike.
No suspect descriptions, arrests or charges have been announced in connection with the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
Another Subway Theft Case
In a December 2022 case, a report from Audacy/1010 WINS described a trio being sought after a man's backpack, containing $150,000 in jewelry, was stolen inside a Manhattan subway station.
That earlier case is not confirmed to be connected to the Bronx robbery, which occurred earlier this month. For now, the investigation into the Bronx robbery remains open, with police relying on the public for tips that could help identify the three suspects.
