A gourmet toast and juice chain is moving into Fells Point, filling a storefront on S. Broadway that Starbucks abandoned last year. Toastique has posted “coming soon” signs at 631 S. Broadway, marking what will be the Washington, D.C.-based chain's first Baltimore City location and its fifth in Maryland overall.
The roughly 1,800-square-foot space previously held a Starbucks, according to WBAL News Radio, which reported that Starbucks shuttered the Broadway shop along with five other Baltimore City locations amid nationwide closures in 2025. Toastique has filed permits for renovations, per city permit records cited in the report, and has selected a general contractor to lead the buildout.
Annapolis Firm Tapped for the Buildout
That contractor is Encore Construction Inc., an Annapolis-based firm that will lead the renovation work, the station's report notes. The buildout is expected to include new partitions, finishes, furniture and equipment as the former coffee shop is reworked into Toastique's signature toast-and-juice concept.
Construction is expected to kick off in October, according to a Toastique spokesperson quoted in the same account. Toastique has not revealed an opening timeline for the Fells Point shop, leaving Baltimore diners without a firm date to circle on the calendar just yet.
Part of a Broader Expansion Push
The Fells Point buildout comes as Toastique keeps expanding its footprint outside the district. In Virginia, the chain was named one of six new retailers landing at BXP's 5-million-square-foot Reston Town Center complex, according to Bisnow.
For now, Fells Point regulars will have to settle for watching the signage change on S. Broadway. Once construction wraps, the block will trade one coffee-and-counter chain for another, with Toastique betting that Baltimore's appetite for artisan toast and cold-pressed juice can fill the space Starbucks left behind.
