According to Chron, the filing names PB2 Architecture + Engineering as the design firm and lists construction dates of March 1, 2027, through April 28, 2028. The project is listed at 96,237 square feet, though Chron reported that the store’s final expansion size remains undetermined.
A Tomball project listing on zabalist.com also identifies a $20 million H-E-B Store #0574 project at 28520 Tomball Parkway, placing it between a $21 million distribution center project and a $17.4 million road-segment job. The listing’s square-footage figure carries lower confidence. Separately, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s TABS system links the project number to a facility named H-E-B Tomball at the same address.
A Longer-Running Request
Chron reported that residents asked for a larger Tomball H-E-B in 2024. Feedback collected for the city’s comprehensive-plan update that January also included requests for a new, larger store.

Services and Opening Date Still Unclear
Chron reported that the store received a $1.7 million wall-to-wall remodel in 2016 and a $200,000 curbside-focused remodel in 2018. The outlet characterized the newly filed work as the store’s biggest and most comprehensive change to date.
How It Fits the Region’s Development
For comparison, the Houston Chronicle reported that Kroger invested nearly $18 million in redesigning Greater Houston stores over the previous 12 months, with its most significant remodels in Baytown, Cypress, Houston (Heights), Katy, Pasadena and Spring. Those were Kroger projects, and their reported scope does not establish how the Tomball H-E-B work will be carried out. The Tomball Economic Development Corporation, citing Community Impact, reported that nearly 400 acres of commercial development were set into action in Tomball at the beginning of 2023. That provides broader local development context, but does not identify transportation changes or development specifically along the Tomball Parkway corridor, nor explain the H-E-B renovation.
Chron reported that the store currently offers fruit, bread, meat, fish and prepared foods, along with curbside pickup, delivery, fuel and a drive-thru pharmacy. H-E-B had no updates to share about possible service changes during construction, according to the outlet. Chron also reported that no opening date for the renovated store has been announced.
