Toys R Us is planting a flag in Allen. The retailer plans to open a new location at Allen Premium Outlets, setting up shop at 820 W. Stacy Road, Ste. 160, right next to Famous Footwear Outlet, according to a news release. No opening date has been set yet.

The Allen announcement, covered by Community Impact Newspaper, adds another North Texas address to a chain that already has a presence across the country. The outlet-mall spot will carry the retailer's familiar mix of children's toys and games, including action figures, books, art supplies, dolls, stuffed animals, puzzles, sidewalk chalk and board games, per the same release.

Toys R Us already has locations scattered across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with stores in Frisco, Plano, Grapevine and Fort Worth, according to the outlet's reporting. The company's website lists its broader footprint at www.toysrus.com.

A Familiar Playbook Just Down the Highway

The Allen store isn't happening in isolation. Just two weeks earlier, Toys R Us reopened at Grapevine Mills after moving across the hall to a new spot in Suite 431, according to Community Impact's Grapevine-area coverage. That store sells toys and games along with pop culture merchandise and collectibles like Pokémon cards and NeeDohs, the outlet reported. CultureMap Fort Worth reported the Grapevine Mills location occupies a 13,000-square-foot space in the mall's former Skechers storefront and opened in mid-September, just ahead of the holiday season.

The timing lines up with a much larger national push. Toys R Us has announced plans to open 120 new stand-alone stores across the United States this holiday season, a rollout that, per Retail Dive, would bring the toy retailer's stand-alone footprint to 160 locations. The expansion is being carried out in partnership with Go! Retail Group, the same outlet reported.

What Shoppers Might Find Inside

Some of the new stores in this wave will feature Creator Studios, and select locations will also add candy shops and cafes, according to Retail Dive's reporting. The chain's newer locations are also stocking a curated selection of toys, collectibles and gifts from brands including Lego, Barbie, Pokémon and KPop Demon Hunters, per the same report. It's unclear whether any of those extras will land in Allen, since the evidence available does not specify features for the Stacy Road store.

Toys R Us isn't limited to stand-alone shops, either. Beyond its own storefronts, the company operates inside Macy's stores nationwide and runs shop-in-shop concepts at airports and with the Navy Exchange Service Command, Retail Dive reported. WHP Global, in a company announcement, said the first Toys“R”Us airport store was planned for Terminal A at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Earlier Targets Set the Pace

The current wave builds on plans laid out roughly a year earlier. By the end of 2025, Toys R Us intended to open 10 new permanent flagship stores in the U.S. along with 20 seasonal holiday pop-ups, according to Retail TouchPoints. Around the same time, the Austin American-Statesman reported the company was opening 10 flagship stores and 20 seasonal locations for that holiday season. Retail TouchPoints also listed South Plains Mall in Lubbock as part of that expansion, marking it as already open at the time.

Company-wide size estimates vary depending on the source and date. WHP Global has said Toys“R”Us has more than 1,400 stores and e-commerce sites across 31 countries, while CultureMap Fort Worth described the brand as spanning more than 1,500 stores and e-commerce businesses across more than 35 countries. Go! Retail Group, which has partnered with WHP Global on the U.S. rollout, says it has opened flagship stores and holiday shops in communities from coast to coast, with more locations launching soon, according to the Go! Retail Group website.

For now, Allen shoppers will have to wait. No opening date has been determined for the Stacy Road location, and the available reports do not provide details about square footage, staffing or a specific merchandise lineup for the store.
