A 10-year-old Travelers Rest boy remains in the pediatric intensive care unit after being struck by an Amazon delivery vehicle while riding his bicycle in his own neighborhood, according to a lawsuit his parents have now filed against the retail giant and the driver involved. The boy, identified as Ethan, was hit during a collision that stems from August 2025, and his family alleges he faces permanent health consequences as a result.
According to Fox Carolina, Ethan was riding his bike in his Travelers Rest neighborhood when he was hit by the delivery vehicle. The outlet reports that Ethan's parents accuse the driver of failing to slow down and failing to pay attention, per the lawsuit. The filing alleges Ethan was severely injured in the crash and remains in the PICU, according to his parents. Amazon has not filed a response to the lawsuit, the station notes.
How Amazon's Delivery Contractor Model Shapes the Case
Cases like this one typically hinge on a structural quirk of Amazon's delivery network: the company relies on more than 3,000 independent Delivery Service Partner companies nationwide to handle last-mile deliveries, according to a legal industry analysis. That shield has been cracking in courtrooms elsewhere. Because Ethan was 10 years old at the time of the crash, South Carolina law will not judge him by an adult standard of care if fault becomes an issue in court. South Carolina's modified comparative negligence statute, S.C.
