Trill Burgers is set to open its newest Houston location this Friday, September 25, in a former Boston Market at Westheimer and Hillcroft. Co-founder Bun B has described the project as the brand’s most difficult opening so far. The company is also considering expansion beyond Houston and developing a chicken-tender spinoff.
A Hard-Won Spot on Westheimer
According to Houston CultureMap, the restaurant will open this Friday, September 25, in a roughly 3,200-square-foot space. Permit filings indicated that the former Boston Market would get a fully remodeled kitchen with a new layout and equipment, per the Houston Chronicle. CultureMap reported that the project required considerable time and expense, making it the most challenging Trill Burgers opening to date.
The location’s Westheimer setting and nearby nightlife were among the reasons Bun B gave CultureMap for pursuing the site. Trill Burgers has occupied the former Boston Market building since securing the space, the outlet reported. The new restaurant is expected to serve the brand’s beef and vegan smash burgers, fries, lemonade and milkshakes. Burgers come with one, two or three patties, cheese, pickles, onions and Trill Sauce.
From Montrose Pop-Up to Halal Burger Chain
Trill Burgers says it was established in Houston in summer 2021 and opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Montrose on June 7, 2023. The company also says it served more than 41,000 burgers in 20 days at the 2023 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
What the Houston records show
The award was specific to one category: according to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Trill Burgers’ OG Trill Burger took first place in Classic Fair Food at the 2023 Gold Buckle Foodie Awards. For comparison, Eater Houston reported in January 2019 that Truth BBQ, whose first smokehouse opened in 2015, was preparing to open a Houston restaurant at 110 South Heights Boulevard. That report documents the smokehouse and the planned Houston restaurant, but does not establish an earlier trailer operation. The timelines differ from Trill Burgers’ 2021 founding and 2023 opening of its first brick-and-mortar restaurant.
Bun B told CultureMap that Trill Burgers went halal a couple of years ago, and the brand now serves halal beef across its menu. The company also drew a huge turnout when it attended a halal festival in 2025. Along the way, Trill Burgers has attracted celebrity regulars including Drake, Mike Tyson, Cardi B, Andre Johnson and J.J. Watt, and it has appeared at music festivals including Coachella, Rolling Loud, Something in the Water and Rock the Bells, per the company's site.
Four Years, Four Stores and a Rodeo Empire
The Westheimer opening comes after four years in business. Trill Burgers now has four stores, as well as operations at Rice University and the football stadium. Bun B has identified consistency as a priority as the business grows, according to CultureMap. He has also said the burger needs to deliver a strong experience on its own.
That reputation traces back to national television. Trill Burgers won Good Morning America's “United States of Burgers” competition in 2022, according to Eater Houston, with partner Andy Nguyen, Bun B and chef Mike Pham taking home the title of best burger in America along with $10,000. The Houston Chronicle's earlier coverage of the Westheimer project also credited that recipe with helping the brand break through nationally.
Trill Tenders and Expansion Beyond Houston
Bun B told CultureMap that the fried-chicken spinoff Trill Tenders is nearing the storefront stage. The concept has been tested at two rodeos, where it recorded strong sales, and is expected to operate as a separate brand. Its potential menu could include salads and sandwiches; the company is looking for a suitable location.
Trill Burgers is also looking beyond Houston, with Dallas among its target markets, Bun B told CultureMap. He has separately expressed interest in opening in his hometown of Port Arthur, with the potential to draw customers from Port Neches, Nederland and Beaumont.
