Turci Panino is packing up its Edgewater Drive storefront and reopening a few doors down as Turci Italian Deli, complete with a drive-thru, inside the vacant space that used to house a Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins. The new location at 3009 Edgewater Drive puts the family's expanding Italian food operation directly across the street from Gabriel's Sub Shop, a College Park sandwich fixture that's been slinging subs since 1958.
The move is the latest step in a broader buildout by owners Vinicius Turci and Nathalia Kalil, who run a growing roster of Turci family restaurants across Central Florida. According to Orlando Weekly, Turci Panino is changing its name to Turci Italian Deli as it relocates from 2122 Edgewater Drive to the former Dunkin' space, a shift that's expected to take about six months to complete. The Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins location shut down in June, per Bungalower, leaving its drive-thru lane sitting idle until now.
Turci told the outlet the drive-thru will offer a convenience angle rarely seen for an Italian concept, with coffee and breakfast sandwiches available for pickup alongside the deli's core lineup. The new spot is set to sell panini, imported meats and cheeses, Italian gelato and coffee, and market staples, plus the family's homemade pastas and sauces. Once open, the deli plans to run from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, per the same report.
Freeing Up Room Next Door for Turci Pasta
The relocation isn't just about gaining a drive-thru lane. By vacating 2122 Edgewater Drive, the deli's move lets sister restaurant Turci Pasta expand into that adjacent footprint, adding more seating and a new dining area. Turci Pasta, which sits at 2120 Edgewater Drive, was voted Best Italian in the 2023 Orlando Sentinel Foodie Awards and is known for an open viewing window where diners can watch fresh pasta made daily, according to The Community Paper.
The flagship restaurant is also part of Visit Orlando's Magical Dining promotion, offering a $40 three-course prix-fixe menu through September, per Visit Orlando's program listings. The Turci name has been stretching well beyond College Park lately. Vinicius Turci acquired Braccia Ristorante in Winter Park in late 2024 and turned it into Luca Turci Italian Restaurant, which now runs a $59 prix-fixe menu alongside its regular offerings, as reported by Orlando Weekly.
A Wine Bar Concept Rising in Maitland
The family is also building out Turci Osteria Italiana, a wine bar and small plates concept currently under construction inside the former MidiCi Neapolitan Pizza space at Maitland City Centre. That 3,000-square-foot unit at Orlando Avenue and Packwood Avenue is expected to open in three to four months, according to Orlando Weekly's reporting.
Facing Off With a College Park Institution
Gabriel's Sub Shop, situated at 3006 Edgewater Drive, has operated as a family-owned sandwich shop since 1958 and is remembered locally for popularizing submarine sandwiches on Italian rolls in College Park, according to the Orange County Regional History Center. The shop's legacy runs deeper than daily lunch traffic. In 1968, per Orlando Memory, Gabriel's arranged a helicopter delivery of submarine sandwiches to U.S. Navy officers stationed aboard the USS Tom Green County in Vietnam's Mekong Delta, after Lt. Col. Roger Phillips wrote home requesting them.
That history now sits directly across Edgewater Drive from a new entrant staking out its own turf in imported meats, cheeses, and made-from-scratch pasta. The pairing adds to a stretch of Edgewater Drive that's seen steady turnover in 2026, including Argentine restaurant Alma Argentina taking over the former College Park Diner space, as Hoodline previously reported. Nearby, Armando's rebranded as Vesuvio in November 2025 under owner Armando Martorelli to offer lower-priced Italian dining, part of a wave of Italian concepts continuing to reshape the corridor.
According to the City of Orlando, its Community Planning Studio has teamed with the Edgewater Drive Vision Task Force to shape a vision for the Edgewater Drive corridor.
