Two people were found dead at an apartment complex on Ella Lee Lane in West Houston Thursday evening, and Houston police detectives are now working to determine what happened. Officers arrived near South Gessner Road and Westheimer Road a little after 6:45 p.m. to find the two victims, and the Houston Police Department has not disclosed how they died or what led up to the discovery.
The Houston Police Department is investigating the case as a possible double homicide, according to KPRC Click2Houston, which first reported the deaths. The outlet reported that police have not released the manner of death or a possible motive, and it said it plans to provide updates online and during its 10 p.m. broadcast as more information becomes available. The apartment complex sits in a stretch of West Houston known for dense multi-family housing, including nearby Woodlake Oaks Apartments, a 377-unit complex at 9550 Ella Lee Lane built in 1976, according to RentCafe.
What Investigators Still Haven't Said
Key details remain unknown at this stage of the investigation. Police have not identified the victims, confirmed a cause of death, said whether a firearm was involved, or indicated whether they are searching for a suspect or examining the possibility of a murder-suicide. Any official determination on cause and manner of death will ultimately come from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, which under Article 49.25 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure holds mandatory jurisdiction over sudden, violent, or suspicious deaths and is responsible for conducting autopsies in such cases.
The location falls within HPD's Mid West Patrol Division, a beat spanning roughly 18.67 square miles with an estimated population of more than 148,000 residents, bounded by major roads including Westheimer, Fondren, and South Gessner. Those cases followed a separate shooting death reported at a Gessner Road gas station.

The pattern along the South Gessner corridor stands in some contrast to the broader citywide trend. Houston Police Department data show citywide homicide investigations dropped 17% in 2025, falling to 272 cases from 331 the year before, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. Even so, multi-family residential communities in this stretch of West Houston have seen repeated violent incidents over the past year.
