The first shooting happened around 3:30 a.m., and the second occurred around 5:30 a.m., according to police accounts of the timeline.
According to KMOV, the Illinois State Police assisted with both investigations but had not said, as of Sunday, whether the two shootings are connected. The station reported that two people were shot in the Fourth Street incident, though only the man's death was confirmed in that location, while the woman was killed in the Madison Street shooting roughly two hours later. The two scenes were reported on nearby streets in Brooklyn.
Local outlet VOTP News STL reported that a shooting near Fourth Street and Jefferson Avenue happened outside Afties nightclub following a physical altercation, with Illinois State Police collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses at the scene for hours on Sunday. Whether that incident is the same one KMOV described in the 100 block of Fourth Street, or a related but separately documented shooting, has not been clarified by investigators.
