Tarvares Deildrick Givens was booked into the Brazoria County Jail on September 16 on a charge of failing to identify himself by giving false or fictitious information, according to Recently Booked.
The driver was identified as Levon Steven Jr. of Florida.
The pursuit ended in the 1600 block of Max Road, where officers took the driver into custody without further incident. More than $6,000 in cash thrown from the vehicle was later recovered, according to Click2Houston.
Click2Houston reported that officers had converged on a parking lot and detained a passenger who left the truck. The driver fled when officers attempted to stop the vehicle; dashcam video showed him throwing cash from the truck during the pursuit.
Detectives were also investigating possible additional fraud-related charges connected to the ATM activity that preceded the pursuit, according to Click2Houston.
Police pursuits across Texas
CBS Texas, citing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data, reported that the number of people killed in Texas crashes involving police chases rose from 34 in 2011 to 72 in 2021. Those figures show the fatal risks of pursuits, but do not establish how often they result in crashes or injuries. KERA News reported that Texas does not maintain a statewide count of how many police pursuits are initiated each year, making it difficult to determine the frequency of crashes or injuries across the state.
