Two men were shot outside a Circle K on West Market Street in Akron Wednesday night, and a teen was arrested.
Officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired at 440 West Market Street around 7:34 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Witnesses told police that more than 10 shots rang out at the Circle K, and the two 23-year-old victims were transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with wounds described as non-life-threatening.
Chase Ends Near Towpath Trail High School
As officers worked the scene, they say two individuals wearing black hoodies were seen running from the area. An Akron police officer attempted to stop two people matching that description in the parking lot of Towpath Trail High School, the outlet's report notes. One suspect took off toward West North Street, and police identified him as a 17-year-old male.
During the pursuit, the teen allegedly threw a loaded firearm with an extended magazine, which an officer then recovered, per the same account. Akron police took the 17-year-old into custody and booked him on charges of illegal conveyance or possession of weapons on school premises, tampering with evidence, carrying concealed weapons, and obstructing official business. He is being held at the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
Investigation Continues, No Motive Released
The shooting remains under investigation, and no motive has been disclosed. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau.
On Aug. 30, a shooting at the Circle K on South Arlington Street left a man dead, according to the Beacon Journal. WKYC reported that a 63-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot at that gas station. Cleveland 19 reported that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and that officers responded to the call at 6:33 a.m. at the Circle K on South Arlington Street. WNIR also covered that fatal shooting, noting witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before officers arrived.
The South Arlington Street investigation remains open. Akron police are asking anyone with information on either shooting to come forward as detectives continue piecing together what led to Wednesday night's gunfire outside the West Market Street Circle K.
