A man is dead after a stabbing at a University City apartment community, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a suspect accused of also beating another man with a metal pipe during the same encounter. The violence unfolded the morning of Dec. 23 in the 1500 block of Kirk Farm Lane, just off East W.T. Harris Road near Old Concord Road, and has since led to a court appearance where a judge denied bond.
Officers were called to the scene around 7:45 a.m. that Tuesday after responding to what was initially reported as an assist-Medic call, according to Yahoo News. Upon arrival, they found a victim suffering from life-threatening injuries described at the time only as “unspecified trauma,” and that person was pronounced dead at the scene, per an earlier account from WBTV. In that first report, the identity of the deceased man was unknown and it remained unclear whether he actually lived at the apartment community.
Arrest Follows Initial Uncertainty
That early uncertainty gave way within a day to word of an arrest. A follow-up report from the same station said a man had allegedly stabbed one person to death and beaten another with a metal pipe at the complex, identifying the suspect as Saul Lopez Perez. The station's report said one victim was stabbed multiple times and another person suffered minor injuries.
Perez faces charges in the case.

The department has not released further details about the victim's identity or how the confrontation began.
