An Uzbek national has been extradited to the United States to face charges of providing material support to foreign terrorist organizations, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn announced Thursday.
The announcement came from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York
, whose official X account, @ednynews, posted that the Uzbek national was extradited to the United States to face charges for providing material support to foreign terrorist organizations.
What the Material Support Statute Covers
A Federal Material-Support Law 18 U.S.C. § 2339B provides that whoever knowingly provides material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization, or attempts or conspires to do so, may be fined, imprisoned for up to 20 years, or both; if a death results, the person may be imprisoned for life.
The statute addresses material support for designated foreign terrorist organizations.
An Earlier, Separate Report of a Similar Case
A previous case bearing some resemblance to this one surfaced in a report from Uzbek outlet Daryo, which described an Uzbek national extradited over a link to an international terrorist organization.
