Parma police located Victor Cuevas, 70, unharmed at a gas station on Clark Avenue in Cleveland on Sunday, according to Cleveland 19 News. The report said Cuevas was reunited with his family after police issued a missing endangered adult alert.
Cuevas had reportedly walked away from the 4100 block of Albertly Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. He was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and 168 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing jeans and a white T-shirt, according to police and the Cleveland 19 report.
How Ohio’s alert program works
Ohio law allows the statewide alert program to be used when police confirm that a person is missing, the person is at least 65 or has a qualifying mental impairment or developmental disability, the disappearance presents a credible risk of serious harm or death, and investigators have enough identifying information for an alert to assist the search, according to Ohio Revised Code Section 5502.522.
These alerts are not sent through the Emergency Alert System or Wireless Emergency Alerts, the Ohio Association of Broadcasters says. Instead, participating agencies and media distribute them through channels including social media, email, text messages and, when used, highway message signs.
