Wafflehalla is now open for business at The Shoppes on Broad in downtown Elyria, giving the city's revitalized retail block a new addition to its growing roster of small shops. The city made the announcement Sunday, sharing the news with a simple, celebratory message: “Wafflehalla is open!”
The announcement came via the City of Elyria, Ohio's Facebook page, which invited visitors to stop by The Shoppes on Broad, grab a coffee, and check out the new small businesses in the area. The Shoppes on Broad sits at 374 Broad Street near Ely Square in downtown Elyria, according to prior Hoodline reporting.
A Growing Roster of Downtown Shops
Wafflehalla joins a location that has already been building momentum as a hub for local entrepreneurs. Five businesses previously opened at The Shoppes on Broad: Roxy's Emporium, Kreations By Kianga, Design By KATHY V, Find It Keep It LLC, and Ally Rose Creations, per the earlier report. Between them, the shops offer vintage finds and home goods, custom clothing designs, interior design creations, rare items, and handcrafted jewelry and accessories, the report notes.
City officials have framed the wave of openings as part of a broader push to revitalize downtown Elyria's commercial core, the same report states. That effort has been building for a few years now, with the Elyria Community Partnership instituting a business development program aimed at supporting local entrepreneurs, according to The Morning Journal.
Part of a Longer Downtown Push
That same program helped support Vintage Vibes, a consignment shop at 51 East Ave. that held its grand opening in downtown Elyria back in May 2023, The Morning Journal reported at the time. The shop is owned by Elyria native Steph Matus and sells vintage clothing, accessories, furniture, and decor rentals, according to that report.
With Wafflehalla now added to the mix, downtown Elyria's small-business scene continues to expand block by block. The city's invitation stands simple enough: stop by The Shoppes on Broad, grab a coffee, and see what's new.
