A 72-year-old Washington Township man has been sentenced to five years in New Jersey state prison after admitting he sexually assaulted a 10-year-old boy at his home, a case that began when the child reported the abuse to detectives in July 2025. Gregory Rademacher was sentenced August 28 in Superior Court, and he is now being held at a facility built decades ago to house offenders in their late teens and twenties.
Superior Court Judge Robert Hanna handed down the five-year term for second-degree sexual assault along with a concurrent three-year sentence for third-degree child endangerment, according to WRNJ Radio. The sentence came roughly nine months after Rademacher formally pleaded guilty to both charges on November 20, 2025, following his arrest the previous August.
The case traces back to July 27, 2025, when the child told authorities that Rademacher had committed multiple acts of sexual contact during visits to his home and had shown him a sex toy, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. That disclosure led investigators to obtain a search warrant for Rademacher's Washington Township home, where detectives found child sexual abuse material on several electronic devices, according to New Jersey 101.5.
From Four Charges to a Guilty Plea
Rademacher was arrested on August 4, 2025 and initially faced four charges, including second-degree child endangerment, third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material, and third-degree witness tampering, the station's earlier report noted. He ultimately pleaded guilty only to second-degree sexual assault and third-degree child endangerment, resolving the broader case through the plea deal.
Following his arrest, Rademacher was held at the Morris County Correctional Facility during the roughly year-long pretrial process before his transfer to state prison, per the same account. New Jersey 101.5 reported that Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll's office handled the prosecution, and that state prison records list Rademacher's earliest release eligibility as November 2, 2029.
Housed at a Facility Built for Young Offenders
Rademacher is now incarcerated at Garden State Youth Correctional Facility, a Burlington County institution established in 1968 in Crosswicks that historically served male offenders between the ages of 18 and 30 with a maximum capacity of 1,511 inmates, according to background compiled on Wikipedia. That the facility now holds a 72-year-old marks a clear departure from its original mandate, and New Jersey 101.5 said it reached out to the New Jersey Department of Corrections for information about older inmates housed there.
The facility has drawn separate scrutiny over conditions. A May 2025 investigation by the New Jersey Office of the Corrections Ombudsperson detailed widespread maintenance and sanitation issues at Garden State Youth Correctional Facility, where approximately 1,000 inmates were housed in double-bunked 67-square-foot cells, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. That report also highlighted severe plumbing defects and cell space limitations at the facility.
What Happens When His Sentence Ends
Under New Jersey's No Early Release Act, individuals convicted of second-degree sexual assault must serve a mandatory minimum of 85 percent of their custodial sentence before becoming parole eligible, a threshold that requires Rademacher to serve over four years, per the New Jersey Legislature's statute. The same law mandates a three-year period of post-release parole supervision for second-degree crime convictions once the custodial term ends.
Rademacher will also be subject to Parole Supervision for Life once he is released, New Jersey 101.5 reported, and he must register as a sex offender. Under that statute, individuals convicted of sex crimes against minors face lifelong post-release monitoring, including strict internet and device restrictions, mandatory curfews, and unannounced compliance searches, according to the Bianchi Law Group. That framework permits a petition to Superior Court for relief only after 15 crime-free years.
