WellAve Dermatology has opened a new headquarters at 2594 Riva Road in Annapolis, a 9,946-square-foot, single-floor building that began welcoming patients on September 14. The move replaces the practice's former Defense Highway office, which required elevator access to reach a fifth-floor suite, and provides a single-floor layout instead.
The new building is more than a bigger waiting room. As citybiz reports, the headquarters includes six general dermatology treatment rooms and six dedicated Mohs surgical rooms, along with separate areas for cosmetic and aesthetic services that support red light therapy and other treatments. WellAve says the Annapolis site now offers more than triple its previous Mohs surgical capacity, a jump that matters given how the procedure is used against skin cancer.
Sheila Keppler, WellAve's chief executive officer, said the relocation improves nearly every aspect of the patient experience, according to citybiz's reporting. Dr. Allan C. Harrington, the practice's founder and chief medical officer, said the new headquarters was built with patients in mind, per the same report. The building also folds in additional on-site scheduling and billing support alongside expanded waiting areas and greater accessibility.
Why Annapolis Needed More Mohs Capacity
The expansion lands in a county with a notable skin cancer burden. According to Maryland Department of Health tracking data from 2018 to 2022, Anne Arundel County recorded an age-adjusted melanoma rate of 37.9 cases per 100,000 residents. The same health department tracking also includes statewide melanoma data.
Mohs micrographic surgery, the procedure now getting six dedicated rooms at the new Annapolis site, is considered a gold-standard treatment for skin cancers in cosmetically sensitive spots like the face. The procedure is used to treat skin cancers in those areas.
From Mobile Clinic To Regional Network
WellAve's current footprint extends beyond Annapolis. Dr. Allan C. Harrington is the practice's founder and chief medical officer.
That growth has continued well beyond Annapolis. WellAve now operates seven clinical locations across Maryland, including offices in Annapolis, Salisbury, Stevensville, Easton, Frederick and Hagerstown, and it expanded dedicated Mohs surgical services to its Eastern Shore practice in Easton earlier this year. In May, the practice also became the Official Dermatology Provider of the Frederick Keys minor league baseball team, hosting skin cancer awareness nights and educational programs for fans as part of its broader push on early detection and sun safety.
A New Anchor On A Growing Corridor
The Riva Road building does double duty as WellAve's corporate headquarters, consolidating administrative, scheduling and billing support teams under the same roof as its clinical operations across all seven sites. Laurie Zuiderhof and Treva Ghattas of Hyatt Commercial represented WellAve in the lease transaction, per citybiz's reporting; Hyatt Commercial is headquartered in Annapolis and has served local, regional and national clients for more than 65 years. The new location sits within minutes of WellAve's former Annapolis office, keeping the practice anchored in the same part of the Riva Road corridor even as its footprint expands.
The move also lands amid broader commercial momentum in the area. Anne Arundel County's real estate market saw median home sales prices reach $556,000 in July, a 10% year-over-year increase backed by a 75.1% homeowner occupancy rate, according to Long & Foster data reported by Hoodline’s coverage of the Annapolis Home Owners Expo. WellAve provides medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology services throughout Maryland, and its new Annapolis hub is positioned to support that network.
