A shooting near the intersection of Little Rock Road and Queen City Drive in West Charlotte left one person seriously injured Tuesday morning, according to medics on scene. The incident was reported around 7 a.m., and the victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Medics confirmed one person was seriously hurt in the shooting, as first reported by WSOC-TV. Details about what led up to the shooting were not yet available, and it remained unclear whether police were searching for a suspect. The station described the situation as a developing story as investigators continued piecing together what happened.
The stretch of road where the shooting occurred falls under the jurisdiction of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Freedom Division, which handles police responses and criminal investigations across several commercial and residential corridors in West Charlotte, according to the City of Charlotte. The corridor has seen repeated violence in recent years, including a September 2025 shooting in the 4000 block of Queen City Drive that left a male victim dead from gunshot wounds, one of two fatal shootings reported in Charlotte that weekend.
A Corridor With a History of Gunfire
Little Rock Road itself has been the site of multiple violent incidents. In March, CMPD officers investigated a morning shooting off Little Rock Road near Glenmoore Drive and Waterrock Road, just south of Freedom Drive, that left two people injured, according to WCNC. And in February, a Mecklenburg County judge sentenced Kenya Romain Venable to 13 to 16 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a fatal February 2024 shooting on Little Rock Road that killed Natajah Johnson, as Hoodline reported in its coverage of that sentencing.
Tuesday's shooting adds to a string of West Charlotte incidents Hoodline has covered in recent months, including shootings on Fairwood Avenue, at a West Charlotte apartment complex, and near a motel on Queen City Drive. Each of those cases involved victims left with serious or life-threatening injuries amid limited early information about suspects or motives.
Crime Trends Show Mixed Picture Citywide
The shooting comes amid a broader public safety picture in Charlotte that offers little clarity on whether the city is becoming safer. CMPD's midyear report showed a 16% drop in overall crime and an 8% decrease in violent crime across the city during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to the City of Charlotte. Yet homicides ticked upward, with CMPD recording 40 in the first six months of 2026, a 3% increase over the 39 recorded during the same period in 2025.
Police Chief Estella Patterson has noted that many of those homicides stemmed from escalating interpersonal disputes, according to WCNC. For all of 2025, Charlotte recorded a 21% reduction in violent crime and a 9% decrease in overall crime, with homicides falling from 110 in 2024 to 96, a decline that Axios reported CMPD credited to its targeted Crime Reduction Units.
The City of Charlotte has also expanded its community-led Alternatives to Violence program into West Charlotte corridors, deploying trained neighborhood advocates who work to detect and mediate conflicts before they turn violent. The program, which follows the Cure Violence Global model, grew out of earlier pilot work on Beatties Ford Road, according to the GreenLight Fund.
