An 18-year-old woman remained hospitalized Tuesday after a pickup truck struck her bicycle Saturday night on Route 209 in Deerpark. New York State Police said the crash occurred at about 8:51 p.m. Sept. 19; the investigation remains open and authorities have announced no arrests or citations. Daily Voice initially reported that she was flown to Westchester Medical Center.
The teenager remained hospitalized Tuesday.
What investigators have released
According to the State Police account reported by Daily Voice, a 54-year-old man driving a northbound Chevrolet pickup struck the cyclist, who was traveling south in the same northbound lane. Police have not released additional findings explaining the collision, and the reported travel directions should not be treated as a final determination of fault.
The investigation is continuing, and the cause of the crash remains unresolved.
Route 209 has a documented crash history—but the comparison is limited
The current collision is not the first reported serious bicycle crash on Route 209 in Huguenot. In a separate incident reported Sept. 21, 2026, the Times Herald-Record said an 11-year-old girl was seriously injured when a southbound car struck her bicycle as she crossed the road. The earlier case involved a different person, date and maneuver; it is a historical comparison, not evidence that the two crashes shared a cause or that collisions are increasing.
The corridor is also listed for a transportation improvement. The New York State Department of Transportation lists a $10.975 million project to resurface Route 209 from the Port Jervis city line to Route 211 through the City of Port Jervis and Town of Deerpark. The project listing does not, by itself, document conditions at the crash location or show that resurfacing would address the circumstances under investigation.
For now, the confirmed public record is limited to the crash location and time, the vehicles’ reported directions, the teenager’s hospitalization and the family’s account of her injuries. Any conclusion about responsibility or roadway safety will depend on further findings from State Police.
