A wood products manufacturer is putting down roots in Anderson County, with plans for a new facility at 1205 Hamby Road in Honea Path expected to create 217 jobs and bring in more than $215 million in investment. Adeptus USA, which makes processed pine products like molding, boards, shiplap and panel goods, says operations are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
The company, described as a wood products manufacturer, has chosen Anderson County for its first South Carolina operation, according to WYFF. The project's price tag is reported at $215.56 million by Greenville Business Magazine, while the SC Daily Gazette puts the figure at $216 million — the exact number has not been reconciled between the two accounts.
The facility will manufacture value-added and processed pine wood products, per the same Greenville Business Magazine report, turning out painted and primed molding, boards, shiplap and a variety of panel products and grades for building and millwork use. HTI is expected to support Adeptus's hiring efforts during the startup phase, the outlet notes.
New Build or Old Textile Plant? Reports Diverge
Exactly what Adeptus is constructing remains unsettled between local outlets. Fox Carolina reported the company announced plans to build a new facility in Anderson County — its first in the state — while the SC Daily Gazette reported Adeptus will instead move into Belton Industries' shuttered textile manufacturing plant. Neither version has been confirmed by a government source independent of these accounts.
State Incentives Tied to Building Upgrades
South Carolina's Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project, according to Fox Carolina. The council also awarded Anderson County an $850,000 Closing Fund grant to help cover the costs of building improvements tied to the project, the station reported.
The Adeptus announcement adds to a string of manufacturing wins for Anderson County. The SC Daily Gazette frames the project as a potential boost to South Carolina's timber industry, which the outlet says has struggled amid closures of major paper mills.
Part of a Broader Wood-Products Push in the State
Adeptus's Honea Path plans follow a larger wood-paneling investment elsewhere in South Carolina. Homanit has pledged to build its first U.S. manufacturing facility on 140 acres near Alcolu in Clarendon County, a $250 million project the SC Daily Gazette reported would employ 300 people and begin operations in 2028, making paneling for furniture, vehicles and doors. Clarendon County approved a reduced 4% property tax rate for Homanit for 40 years as part of that deal, according to the same outlet's earlier reporting.
Anderson County has landed other recent projects as well, though with smaller footprints than the Adeptus plant. If the Honea Path facility proceeds as outlined, it would join a growing cluster of manufacturing investment in the Upstate as operations ramp toward the 2027 target date.
