A 27-year-old man walked into Detroit's 11th Precinct station on Thursday seeking help after being shot, according to police. Officers found he had suffered a gunshot wound to the left buttock area and rushed him to a local hospital, where he is expected to recover.
The man went directly to the department's northeast side station at 5100 E. Nevada Avenue, as reported by WDIV ClickOnDetroit. The precinct, which covers several northeast Detroit neighborhoods, sits under the leadership of Commander Michael Chambers and has increasingly served as an emergency point of contact for residents in crisis, according to the City of Detroit. Where the shooting itself occurred remains unclear, and it has not been established whether any suspects have been arrested.
Investigation Remains Open
The station's report notes that the shooting investigation is ongoing, with detectives working to piece together what happened before the man arrived at the precinct wounded. Anyone with information is asked to call the 11th Precinct Detective Unit at (313) 596-1100, per the same account.
Investigators are also leaning on anonymous tip channels to help crack the case. A Precinct With a Recent History of Violence Nearby
This is not the first violent incident tied to the 11th Precinct's coverage area this year. On August 12, officers patrolling near 7 Mile Road and Ryan Road applied emergency tourniquets to save a shooting victim before EMS arrived, a case Hoodline previously covered. The precinct station itself has been close to gun violence before. The Thursday walk-in comes even as Detroit's overall violent crime numbers have fallen sharply. Non-fatal shootings across the city dropped to 447 in 2025, a 26% decline from 603 the year before, according to the Associated Press. Criminal homicides fell even further, to 165 in 2025 from 203 in 2024, marking the city's lowest annual homicide total since 1965.
City leadership has credited community intervention zones and integrated mental health dispatchers for driving those numbers down. Detroit's seven designated Community Violence Intervention zones contributed to a combined 22% reduction in homicides and non-fatal shootings within targeted neighborhoods last year, per FOX 2 Detroit. The drop mirrors a broader national pattern, as FBI data for 2024 showed an 8% decline in property crime and a nearly 15% drop in murder and non-negligent manslaughter nationwide.
Despite that citywide progress, Thursday's shooting shows how isolated incidents of gun violence continue to disrupt individual neighborhoods on Detroit's east side.
