A Yonkers man who stabbed a stranger in the neck during an unprovoked argument at a Babylon residence has pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, admitting to an attack prosecutors say nearly cost the victim his life. Robert Brozowski, 35, is expected to receive an 18-year prison sentence when he returns to court on October 28.
The stabbing happened on August 29, 2025, after Brozowski traveled to Long Island and visited the roommate of the 38-year-old victim, according to Daily Voice. Suffolk County Police First Precinct officers were dispatched to the residence after two separate 911 calls reported that Brozowski had engaged in an unprovoked verbal argument with a man he had just met that day before stabbing him in the neck, as detailed by Patch. The two men did not know each other before the encounter.
The wound was severe. The stabbing severed the victim's trachea and esophagus, and he underwent extensive emergency surgery at a local hospital before eventually being released. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney publicly condemned the attack following Brozowski's initial court appearance, stating that the violent assault could have easily resulted in the victim's death.
A Chase Down Deer Park Avenue
After the stabbing, Brozowski fled the scene in a red 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, heading northbound on Deer Park Avenue, a major four-lane regional corridor connecting Montauk Highway to the Southern State Parkway, per background cited from Wikipedia. Once on the parkway, he initially pulled over for a police officer, then re-entered traffic and fled again, only coming to a stop one exit later, according to the same Patch report. Police ultimately took him into custody, and he was held on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond, per court records.
A grand jury in Suffolk County Supreme Court originally indicted Brozowski on charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Brozowski was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei, the outlet's report noted. Under New York Penal Law § 120.10, first-degree assault alone is classified as a Class B violent felony carrying a mandatory minimum state prison sentence of 5 years and a maximum of up to 25 years, according to New York State's Open Legislation records.
Warning Signs Before the Attack
Just three days before the Babylon stabbing, an emergency protection order had already been filed against Brozowski in Westchester County. Police documented that he threatened to run over a neighbor's autistic child with his truck and pointed a green laser at the child, the same Daily Voice account states, painting a picture of rapidly escalating behavior in the days leading up to the attack.
Police records associated with prior law enforcement contacts described Brozowski, a Yonkers resident, as a former United States Marine suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. At the time of the stabbing, prosecutors disclosed, he was also actively serving a probation sentence stemming from a domestic violence conviction in New Jersey — meaning he was under active supervision in another state when he carried out the attack on Long Island.
Plea Deal Trades Lesser Charge for Certainty
Under the plea agreement finalized this month, prosecutors dropped the top charge of second-degree attempted murder in exchange for Brozowski's guilty plea to first-degree assault. He is expected to receive an 18-year prison term, and sentencing is scheduled for October 28.
Brozowski was on active New Jersey probation when he carried out the attack, three days after a Westchester protection order was filed.
