About 110,000 swing seats sold on Amazon are being pulled from backyards nationwide after the metal carabiners, quick links or webbing straps holding them together were found to snap during use, sending people crashing to the ground. The manufacturer, Pacearth Direct, says it is aware of at least 30 reported falls tied to the seats, resulting in nine injuries that included fractures, head injuries and bruising.
According to USA Today, the recalled U-type swing seats were sold on Amazon between May 2017 and June 2026, priced between $27 and $57 depending on whether buyers purchased a single seat or a two-pack. The seats came in green, blue, pink, red and turquoise, each featuring a chain coated in yellow plastic along with the carabiners, quick links and yellow webbing straps meant to attach the swing to an outdoor swing set or a sturdy tree branch.
What Went Wrong
The recall centers on a straightforward but serious failure: the very hardware designed to keep the seat suspended — the carabiners, quick links or webbing straps — can break while someone is swinging. Per the same report, that failure point is what turned 30 known falls into a recall covering more than 100,000 units sold across the country.
As of October 8, nine of those reported falls had resulted in injuries ranging from fractures to head injuries and bruising, the outlet's reporting notes. The recall does not specify the ages, locations or circumstances of those incidents, and no further medical details have been released.
How to Get a Refund
Consumers who own one of the recalled seats are advised to stop using it immediately and contact Pacearth Direct for a full refund. To claim that refund, the company says owners should write the word “RECALLED” on the seat in permanent marker, take a photo showing both the marked word and the Pacearth logo, and email that photo to [email protected].
Backyard swing hardware failures are not unheard of in past recalls tracked by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which has previously logged a case in which Little Tikes Commercial and Miracle Recreation Equipment directly contacted known purchasers after a swing broke and caused a child to fall, resulting in a minor injury. In a separate case, the agency recorded a recall in which Backyard Ventures swing sets had detaching frames, prompting the company to offer free replacement bolts.
For now, anyone with one of the Pacearth seats hanging in their yard is urged to take it down and pursue the refund process directly with the manufacturer rather than risk another break.
