A multi-agency law enforcement push has resulted in 144 arrests, officials announced, under an operation carrying the striking codename Loaded Dice. The scope of who was arrested and why remained largely under wraps as of Thursday, with a 1 p.m. press briefing expected to fill in the blanks.
The arrest count comes from KTNV Las Vegas, which reported that the multi-agency operation led to the arrests of 144 people. The station said a media briefing scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday was expected to include more information about the operation and the people taken into custody, though as of publication, additional details about the arrests and the nature of the sweep had not been shared.
Who's Behind Operation Loaded Dice
Homeland Security Investigations Las Vegas is leading the task force behind the operation, according to the station's reporting. The agency is described as the principal investigative agency for the Department of Homeland Security in Las Vegas, and officials from HSI Las Vegas along with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada were expected to speak at Thursday's briefing.
Beyond those two agencies and the headline arrest figure, the public record on Loaded Dice is thin. No information has surfaced yet about who was arrested, what charges they may face, where within the Las Vegas area the operation took place, or how long it ran before Thursday's announcement.
A Pattern Seen Elsewhere in the Southwest
Large-scale, multi-agency law enforcement sweeps branded with their own operation names have become a recurring feature of federal and local policing efforts across the region. In New Mexico, a five-week effort called Operation Triple Beam-Prolific wrapped up in late September with 237 arrests, according to KTSM 9 News. That Las Cruces operation, which ran from Aug. 24 through Sept. 25, also netted 17 firearms, two recovered stolen vehicles, and seizures of cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, the outlet reported — including 54 grams of cocaine, 403.4 grams of methamphetamine and 110 grams of fentanyl.
The New Mexico operation's stated goal was apprehending violent fugitives and targeting firearm and narcotics offenders — a different mission framing than what has been disclosed so far for Loaded Dice.
What's Known About the Las Vegas Task Force Itself
Homeland Security Investigations Las Vegas has been tied to task force activity in Nevada before. Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Justice's office for the District of Nevada credited the Las Vegas Homeland Security Task Force with a takedown that resulted in arrests and an indictment of two men for distributing large quantities of drugs and laundering money, stating the case was a direct result of the task force's coordinated investigative work.
It remains unclear whether Operation Loaded Dice connects to that earlier case or represents an entirely separate effort. No information in the public record so far links the two beyond their shared association with the same Las Vegas-based task force.
