A 21-year-old man walked into a Baltimore hospital Friday afternoon with a gunshot wound to his leg, triggering a police investigation into a shooting that may have happened in the city's Parkway neighborhood. He was reported in stable condition, and detectives are still working to pin down exactly where he was hurt.
According to FOX45 News, police responded to the hospital around 1:17 p.m. Friday after the man arrived on his own seeking treatment for the gunshot wound. Officials located him there and determined his age before classifying the case as a walk-in shooting. A preliminary investigation suggested the shooting itself took place somewhere near the 2700 block of Liberty Heights Avenue in northwest Baltimore, though the exact location has not been confirmed.
Detectives are now investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting, and police have asked anyone with information to come forward. Those with tips can call detectives directly at 410-396-2411, or reach out anonymously through the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-866-7LOCK-UP or via the MCS of Maryland website.
A Stretch of Road With a History of Walk-In Shooting Victims
Friday's case fits a pattern that has played out more than once along the same corridor. On March 7, patrol officers responded to an area hospital around 12:40 a.m. after a 31-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman showed up with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to Baltimore Witness. That preliminary investigation traced the shooting to the 2400 block of Liberty Heights Avenue, and Western District shooting detectives took over the case.
Another walk-in case unfolded on June 2, when officers learned around 9 a.m. that a 43-year-old man had sought treatment at a hospital in the Northwestern District. The man told police he had been in the Liberty Heights area on Garrison Boulevard when an unidentified person approached him; he said he started walking away, heard a gunshot, and then noticed he was bleeding before getting a ride to the hospital, the same station's report noted.
Citywide Homicides Trending Down
Friday's shooting comes as Baltimore's overall violent crime numbers have been easing. The Baltimore Police Department reported that homicides fell 23% during the first half of 2026, dropping to 50 compared with 65 over the same period in 2025, according to the Baltimore Police Department.
The department also pointed to a rising clearance rate for non-fatal shootings, which it said had climbed more than 12 percentage points over the past year to reach 54% as of July 1. Still, the recurring reports of walk-in shooting victims around Liberty Heights Avenue suggest the area remains a focal point for investigators even as citywide trends improve.
For now, the 21-year-old's case remains open, with no identified suspect or confirmed shooting scene. Detectives continue to rely on the public for information as they work to determine exactly what happened Friday afternoon.
