A 62-year-old Muskegon man died after suffering multiple stab wounds Saturday afternoon, and police say a 69-year-old man connected to the attack is already in custody. Officers were called to the area of Forest Avenue and Eighth Street at about 3:50 p.m., where they found the victim suffering from the wounds that would prove fatal.
According to WOOD TV8, officers with the Muskegon Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing in that stretch of the city and found the man suffering from his injuries. He was treated at the scene but died from the wounds, the station reports. A 69-year-old Muskegon man connected to the stabbing was taken into custody, per the same report, though it remains unclear what, if any, charges he may face.
Case Still Under Investigation
Muskegon police have not released additional details about what led to the stabbing, and the incident remains under investigation, the station notes. As reported by MLive, the case adds another name to a string of violent crimes that have shaken the lakeshore city in the past year and a half. Anyone with information about Saturday's stabbing is asked to call the Muskegon Police Department at 231-724-6750 or Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.
A City Tracking Its Homicide Numbers
The killing comes after a year in which Muskegon saw its homicide count tick downward. The city recorded four homicides in 2025, a decrease from the five logged in 2024, and police made an arrest in all four of last year's cases, according to a report from mlive.com.
Those 2025 cases included the June shooting death of 72-year-old Robert Ritter near Jiroch Street and Irwin Avenue, and the December killing of 73-year-old Thomas Lee Stewart Sr., who was shot in his own Jiroch Street home during what police described as an attempted robbery. Days later, a shooting at a home on Jackson Avenue left 25-year-old Joshua Fondren Jr. and 22-year-old Cori Marie-May Watts dead and injured a 4-year-old girl, per the same mlive.com account.
Saturday's stabbing remains an open investigation, and police have not said whether it is connected to any broader pattern. For now, the Muskegon Police Department is relying on the public for tips as it works to piece together what happened near Forest Avenue and Eighth Street.
