A 70-year-old man died Sunday after falling from a lift while working on the lights at the Bass Pro Shops in Leeds, Alabama. The accident happened at 4:20 p.m., and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified him as Kurt W. Kralovec of Trussville.
Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said the man fell from the lift while working on lighting at the store, according to al.com. Leeds police told WBRC that a man died after the accident at the Leeds store on Sunday.
Investigation Still Underway
Police confirmed that an investigation into the accident is ongoing, per the same WBRC report. Authorities said Kralovec was an employee of Bass Pro Shops. No further details about what led to the fall or the type or condition of the lift have been released. The outlet's initial report noted it would be updated if more information becomes available.
Police identified the man as Kurt W. Kralovec of Trussville, and it remains unclear what, if any, additional findings investigators may share as the case moves forward.
Part of a Broader Pattern in Alabama Workplaces
The death adds to a string of fatal workplace incidents reported around Alabama this year. In July, a person died in an industrial accident at Alabama Bridge Builders in Chilton County, according to authorities cited by WSFA. Separately, a Mobile County industrial worker was killed by machinery at Canfor Timber Company in the Bucks area, as reported by WKRG.
Statewide, fatal work injuries totaled 75 in 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It is not established whether that figure or its underlying categories are comparable to Sunday's accident at the Leeds store. As the investigation continues, Leeds police have not indicated when additional information about the man or the circumstances of his fall might be released.
