A 73-year-old Atlantic City woman died after being struck by an SUV while crossing the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. Aimee Altin was hit near Bayport Drive and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police accounts of the crash.
Police said officers responded to the Black Horse Pike and Bayport Drive at 7:24 p.m. on Oct. 2, when Altin failed to cross the street safely and was struck, according to dailyvoice.com. A separate police account cited by the Courier-Post placed the crash at approximately 7:25 p.m. the same evening. Daily Voice identified the vehicle as a 2021 Dodge Durango; nj.com reported that it was traveling westbound on the Pike and confirmed Altin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Driver Identified, Cooperated With Police
Police identified the driver as 26-year-old Paula Rodas-Quintero of Pleasantville, who was driving the Durango westbound when Altin was struck in the westbound lanes, per a report from wpgtalkradio.com. The same account states Rodas-Quintero called 911 immediately and cooperated with investigators at the scene. Traffic in the area was detoured for approximately four hours while the crash scene was investigated and cleared, the station's report notes.
The investigation into the crash remained ongoing, and nj.com reported that anyone with information was asked to call Egg Harbor Township police at 609-926-2661.
Not the First Crash on This Stretch
This is not the first pedestrian crash on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township in recent memory. On Aug. 1, police responded to a crash near the Black Horse Pike and Fire Road at approximately 8:58 p.m., according to Shore Local News. In that incident, police said 80-year-old Delwood Williams of Williamstown was driving a westbound 2020 Chevrolet Silverado when he struck 20-year-old Najee Ceaser of Mays Landing, who was improperly crossing the roadway. Ceaser suffered serious bodily injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare's City Division, while Williams was not hurt, Shore Local News reported.
A fatal hit-and-run also struck a pedestrian crossing the Black Horse Pike in the nearby West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township in November 2023. That crash happened around 6:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Bayport Drive, according to WFPG, which reported that the vehicle involved fled the scene.
Statewide Traffic Deaths Trending Down
The crash comes as New Jersey's overall traffic fatality numbers have shown improvement. Preliminary data cited by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General showed fatal crashes declined by nearly 16 percent statewide, from 647 in 2024 to 547 in 2025, while deaths in those crashes dropped by approximately 15 percent, from 684 to 582. Despite that statewide trend, the Black Horse Pike corridor through Egg Harbor Township has continued to see repeated pedestrian crashes in recent years.
