Achieve Credit Union broke ground this week on a fourth branch, this one in Avon, marking the Elyria-based institution's latest expansion into western Lorain County. The groundbreaking took place Wednesday, October 14, 2026, with the credit union targeting a summer 2027 opening for the new location.
According to Morning Journal, the new branch is planned near Nagel and Middleton roads close to the Interstate 90 interchange, an area the credit union says will give residents in eastern Lorain County and western Cuyahoga County easier access to its services. The outlet's report lists the address as 1839 Nagel Road, though a separate account from Citizen Portal places a planned Achieve drive-thru branch at 2295 Nagel Road, and the two reports have not been reconciled.
President and CEO Bret Fisher said, per Morning Journal, that Avon has no credit union at this time, and that Achieve is excited to join the Avon community and bring the credit union philosophy there. Fisher also said the credit union chose Avon to continue its growth and better serve members in Avon, Avon Lake and North Ridgeville, citing a significant membership base already in those surrounding communities and an opportunity to expand.
What's Planned for the New Branch
Design plans for the Avon branch call for two drive-thru teller lanes, a 24-hour drive-thru ATM, expanded teller stations and a modern lobby, the credit union's report notes. The same Citizen Portal account describing the 2295 Nagel Road site says a drive-thru project design there includes three lanes with capacity for 12 queuing spaces, a detail that does not match the two-lane description in the seed report. Citizen Portal also reports that Avon's Planning Commission recommended approval of that drive-thru project by a 5-0 vote.
The Avon branch is expected to resemble Achieve's recently relocated Lorain branch, which held its own grand opening Aug. 5 at 4207 N. Leavitt Road after moving from the credit union's longtime Oberlin Avenue location. That Lorain branch, per the same Morning Journal account of the relocation, features the identical combination of two drive-thru teller lanes, a 24-hour drive-thru ATM, expanded teller stations and a modern lobby now planned for Avon.
Staffing and a Growing Footprint
The new Avon location is expected to employ five people, bringing Achieve's total workforce to 49 employees once the branch opens, according to the credit union's figures reported by Morning Journal. That would mark continued growth from the 44 full- and part-time employees the credit union reported as of June 30, 2026, according to NCUSO, which also lists Achieve as a non-federally insured state credit union headquartered in Elyria with three branches at that time.
Avon will become Achieve's fourth location, joining existing branches in Elyria, Lorain and LaGrange and expanding the credit union's presence in western Lorain County. Achieve has operated since 1958, and according to Achieve Credit Union, it received its original charter, No. 841, on Feb. 21 of that year under the name Midview Credit Union. The credit union now serves people who live, work, worship or attend school in Lorain, Cuyahoga, Erie or Medina counties, and reports more than $160 million in assets and more than 11,000 members.
The Avon groundbreaking also comes just two months after Achieve's Lorain relocation, continuing a stretch of expansion for the credit union. Nationally, federally insured credit union membership reached 145.8 million in the first quarter of 2026 and continued growing over the prior year, according to the National Credit Union Administration.
