AffoGATO Cat Cafe is a feline hangout spot in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood, known for housing adoptable rescue cats.
About AffoGATO
affoGATO opened its doors on Jan. 2, 2019, becoming Cleveland's first cat cafe, according to cleveland.com. The cafe is located at 761 Starkweather Ave. in Tremont, the same outlet reported, and it hosted eight cats at opening, with hopes of eventually having 16.
A Cafe Built Around Rescue Cats
affoGATO's own website says the cafe typically houses between 16 and 20 cats at a time, all of them rescues from the Cleveland Animal Protective League. The cafe notes it is not formally part of the APL but works closely with the organization, and that every cat receives veterinary care and a behavioral assessment from the APL before moving into the shared cat room.
AffoGATO usually houses 16 to 20 adoptable foster cats, according to its website. The cafe says its model has helped more than 1,700 cats find homes since it opened in 2019.
A Similar Cat Cafe Incident
In Oklahoma City in April 2024, the Don't Stress Meowt Cat Cafe said a vandal threw a rock through a window in its cat lounge, letting some cats get out, according to KOKH/OKC Fox. The cafe later said all of its cats were recovered safely and planned to install impact-resistant film across its lounge windows; repairs and the protective film were expected to cost around $1,800.
