Downtown Alhambra closes off a chunk of Main Street Sunday for the 13th Annual Alhambra Pumpkin Run, a morning packed with races, a farmers market, live entertainment and a costume contest that doubles as the city's biggest fall fundraiser for local schools. Runners, families and dog owners alike should take note: this one comes with real road closures and at least one pet restriction.
Street Closures and Race Lineup
The run takes place Sunday in Downtown Alhambra, with proceeds benefiting the Alhambra Educational Foundation, according to the Alhambra Unified School District. The event includes 10K, 5K, 1K and Kiddie Run races, along with live music, a beer garden, a kids costume contest, a kids zone and a farmers market. The race starts at 132 W. Main St., and Main Street will be closed between Atlantic Boulevard and El Molino Avenue, according to the Alhambra Pumpkin Run website.
The Hallowscream Festival portion of the event sets up on 2nd Street between Main Street and Commonwealth Avenue, the race website notes. The farmers market runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the kids costume contest takes the Main Stage at 11:30 a.m., per the same source. Runners 21 and older can grab a free beer courtesy of Ohana Brewery, while runners under 21 get one free nonalcoholic drink instead, the site states.
New Kiddie Course and a Pet Reminder
Families bringing little ones can look forward to a redesigned Kiddie Fun Run this year, with organizers describing the new route as roughly a half kilometer, or about a quarter mile, according to the event's RunSignup registration page. One rule hasn't changed: dogs are not allowed at either the run or the farmers market, with the exception of service animals, the Alhambra Pumpkin Run site confirms.
Police Selling Pink Merch for Breast Cancer Research
Alongside the race festivities, the Alhambra Police Department is running its own fundraiser at the event, selling Pink Patch merchandise with proceeds benefiting City of Hope breast cancer research, the department announced in its Facebook post. The lineup includes a patch, tumbler, tote bag, keychain, standard and V-neck T-shirts, kids T-shirts and stickers.
Prices range from $10 for the patch or a keychain up to $30 for a standard T-shirt, with a tumbler going for $25, a tote bag for $20, a V-neck shirt for $20, a kids T-shirt for $15 and stickers at two for $5, according to the department's post. The department promoted its Pink Patch merchandise.
Buyers can pay in cash or via Venmo, and those interested can email [email protected] to purchase items, the police department said.
