Allium Eatery has found its next home. The intimate Westport restaurant, known for its ever-changing, locally sourced menu, announced it will move into Bedford Square at 34 Elm St., taking over a space that most recently housed a Korean steakhouse.
Owner Michelle Greenfield confirmed the address in a statement reported by New Haven Register, which quoted the announcement that “Allium will be moving into Bedford Square at 34 Elm St.” The news comes months after Allium shuttered its original location at 54 Railroad Place in May, leaving fans of the restaurant wondering where it would resurface.
According to Patch, Allium remains temporarily closed while it prepares for the move, and an exact reopening date has not been disclosed. Greenfield and sous chef Norah Harrington wrote on Facebook that the new space will carry over what made the original spot special — welcoming hospitality, locally sourced ingredients, signature dishes and libations, and, as they put it, always something new.
A Space Years in the Making
Greenfield and Harrington said they found Allium's new location after months of searching and negotiating, and that the new restaurant is meant to create a cozy, inviting space for people to gather and share meals. The pair added that further details about the new restaurant and its opening would come soon, per the same account from the Register.
Allium's ownership had already signaled back in March that the restaurant had outgrown its Railroad Place space and would need to move, a plan that's now taking shape with the Elm Street address. The original Allium opened in Westport in 2021 with an intimate, 20-seat dining room that quickly built a following for its hyper-seasonal approach to cooking.
A Menu Built on What Showed Up That Day
That original Allium didn't run on a fixed menu. New items appeared weekly depending on whatever ingredients arrived at the restaurant, the Register noted, while CT Bites described a menu that changed regularly with new dishes featured daily. The restaurant leaned heavily on nearby farms for its ingredients, according to CT Insider, which also detailed how Allium functioned as a grab-and-go cafe during the day before shifting into dinner service Thursday through Sunday.
The restaurant had also built a reputation for sustainability efforts at its original location, using compostable containers for takeout and swapping plastic bottles for glass after partnering with Sustainable Westport, according to 06880danwoog.com.
From Korean Steakhouse to Bistro Buvette
The Bedford Square address Allium is moving into isn't a blank slate — it previously housed Gogi Korean Steakhouse & Sushi, which closed earlier in 2026, per the Register's reporting. Patch reported that Gogi's owners closed the Westport spot and relocated the business to Shelton.
That relocation has its own backstory. Simon and Elaine Chen closed Gogi in Westport to move their business to a new Galbi Korean Steakhouse location in Shelton's Fountain Square, according to CT Post. Galbi held its soft opening on March 20 at 785 Bridgeport Avenue, with the Chens telling CT Post they needed more room for diners after long waits at their Westport restaurant — a space expected to seat up to 200 once its seasonal patio opens.
For now, Westport diners will have to wait for Allium's return. No opening date has been set, but with the address now public, Greenfield and Harrington's promise of more details soon offers at least a small taste of what's ahead for the Elm Street space.
