Charlotte FC and Ally Financial are staying together for the long haul. The club and the bank announced a multi-year extension of their founding partnership on Tuesday, keeping Ally as Charlotte FC's official banking partner and front-of-kit sponsor for years to come.
The deal keeps Ally's logo on Charlotte FC jerseys well into the next decade, according to Sports Business Journal, though the outlet reported that financial terms and the precise duration of the extension were not disclosed. Ally first committed as Charlotte FC's founding and lead partner back in July 2019, before the club was even awarded an MLS franchise, according to a release from Ally's media relations team.
“Ally's belief and support in Charlotte FC has been an integral part of our Club's journey,” said Eric Sudol, chief revenue officer of team owner Tepper Sports & Entertainment, per the same release. He added that the partnership is among the strongest in MLS, and that Ally's continued commitment reflects a shared belief in the club's growth, fan passion, and community future.
A Bet Placed Before There Was Even a Team
Andrea Brimmer, Ally's chief marketing and public relations officer, framed the extension as a continuation of faith the bank placed in Charlotte years ago. “We believed in Charlotte FC before there was even a team,” Brimmer said, according to Ally's announcement. She said the club's development and community impact made extending the partnership an easy decision, and that Ally is reaffirming its commitment to supporting fans and the Charlotte region going forward.
Charlotte FC's on-field and box-office track record has backed up that bet. The club has ranked among MLS's top five teams in attendance every year of its existence, per Ally's release, and the Charlotte Business Journal reports the extension keeps Ally as the team's most lucrative corporate backer. During Ally's first season as kit sponsor in 2022, Charlotte FC set first-year MLS sales benchmarks while consistently ranking among the league's top three teams in attendance, the publication's sister site noted in earlier reporting.
What Ally Is Reportedly Paying
Sports Business Journal reported that Ally pays an average of $8 million annually under the current deal, well above SponsorUnited's estimate that the average MLS front-of-kit sponsorship is worth $5.1 million this season. The outlet also reported that Ally has seen a 22% jump in brand awareness among MLS fans tied to the Charlotte FC deal, building on internal studies the bank cited in 2022 showing its local awareness had grown 70% since the sponsorship began. Ally is also a league-level sponsor of the NWSL, according to that same 2022 report.
Mini-Pitches and After-School Literacy Programs
The renewed partnership extends beyond jerseys and stadium branding into community programming. Ally will continue backing Charlotte FC's Pitches for Progress initiative, which has opened seven mini-pitches in at-risk communities and recorded roughly 7.5 million minutes of play across the city to date, according to Ally's release. The bank previously said it planned to build more mini-pitches at schools and underserved neighborhoods around Charlotte and the surrounding region.
Greater Goals, Charlotte FC's flagship community program presented by Ally, is a free after-school soccer and literacy program for Title I elementary school students. Since launching in 2022, it has reached thousands of local youth across more than 40 schools with nearly 70,000 book donations and more than 2.2 million minutes of reading time, per Ally's announcement. The two companies' counts of volunteer participation differ slightly: Ally's release says nearly 500 employees have volunteered across the club's community programs, while Sports Business Journal reported the figure as more than 500.
Bigger Stadium Plans on the Horizon
The sponsorship extension lands amid a much larger transformation taking shape around Charlotte FC's home turf. Bank of America Stadium and its surrounding campus are undergoing a $1.3 billion transformation, with at least eight cornerstone partners expected to be in place by the start of the 2030 MLS and NFL seasons, according to Sports Business Journal.
Fans will get a chance to celebrate the renewed partnership in person soon. Ally and Charlotte FC will host a pre-match party inside the Legends Row stadium area before the club's final regular-season home match on Saturday, with a special “Minted” patch giveaway recalling the team's inaugural season, according to Ally's announcement.
