A 79-year-old Arlington man has died from injuries he suffered in a rollover crash on West Green Oaks Boulevard, succumbing days after the SUV he was riding in went over a curb, struck a pole and flipped into a roadside ditch. Bruce Alan Whicker died Oct. 1 due to blunt-force injuries from the crash, which happened about 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, near Ron McAndrew Drive.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the crash occurred about 5 p.m. on Sept. 28 along West Green Oaks Boulevard near Ron McAndrew Drive in Arlington. A 2019 Cadillac XT5 was traveling southbound on Green Oaks when it went over the curb on Ron McAndrew Drive and hit a pole. The car then rolled over, landing upright in a ditch alongside the road.
Whicker and the driver of the Cadillac were both taken to a hospital following the wreck. The driver, a 73-year-old woman, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while Whicker was seriously injured, according to police. He died at the hospital days later.
Medical Examiner Confirms Cause of Death
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office attributed Whicker's death to blunt-force injuries sustained in the crash, per its website, as the outlet's report noted. Arlington police said the cause of the crash itself remains under investigation, and no additional details about what led the Cadillac off the road have been released.
The evidence gathered so far does not identify the hospital where Whicker and the other driver were treated, nor does it name the Cadillac's driver. Those details have not been made public.
Other Serious Crashes on Green Oaks Boulevard
A two-vehicle wreck was reported at the intersection of W. Green Oaks Boulevard and Waterview Drive on May 8, 2023, according to a City of Arlington fatality crash report. A separate report describes a July 5, 2024 crash in the 2200 block of NW Green Oaks Boulevard, in which a vehicle struck a concrete structure head-on.
Arlington police also investigated a two-vehicle crash at Cravens Park Drive and SE Green Oaks Boulevard on Jan. 2, 2025, and, more recently, a fatal crash occurred July 19 on New York Avenue. A single-vehicle rollover was also reported in January 2023 on eastbound I-20 near the Green Oaks Boulevard entrance ramp. None of these reports establish a pattern connecting them to the crash that killed Whicker.
In a separate case from January 2025, the Star-Telegram reported that a two-car crash on Green Oaks Boulevard killed a 56-year-old driver who was trying to turn left when he was hit by another vehicle. As with the other prior incidents, there is no established link between that crash and the one that claimed Whicker's life.
For now, Arlington police have not released further information on what caused the Cadillac to leave the roadway on Sept. 28, and the investigation into Whicker's death continues.
