Richmond County deputies are asking for the public's help finding a man wanted for questioning after a shooting on the 2100 block of Gordon Highway in Augusta on Thursday. Authorities identified him as 39-year-old Jesse Amon Ivey and say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
According to WRDW, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office is looking for Ivey in connection with the shooting that happened on the 2100 block of Gordon Highway on Thursday. Deputies described Ivey as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 210 pounds, and said he is considered armed and dangerous.
Deputies say Ivey is known to frequent hotels along the corridor, specifically the Red Roof Inn and Country Hearth Inn on Gordon Highway, the station's report notes. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at 706-821-4850 or 706-821-1020.
A Stretch of Road With a Troubled History
Gordon Highway's hotel strip has seen its share of violence in recent years, though each incident is distinct from Thursday's case. In 2022, Richmond County deputies responded to a report of shots fired at the Hampton Inn at 306 Timbercreek Lane, also in the 2100 block of Gordon Highway, according to WRDW. In that case, a round fired by a suspect in an adjacent room went through the wall and struck a man in the arm; the victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries while the suspect was taken into custody and treated for minor cuts, per that same report.
A more serious case unfolded in March 2023, when an unidentified man was shot at least once at the Super 8 motel on the same stretch of Gordon Highway and later died, as reported by the Augusta Chronicle. Separately, a shooting broke out during an argument at a Gordon Highway convenience store, according to WJBF, which reported that 36-year-old Nathan Nixon was charged with aggravated assault after passenger Marcelias Williams was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Pattern of Public Appeals in Richmond County
This is not the first time Richmond County authorities have turned to the public for help identifying people wanted for questioning tied to the Gordon Highway corridor. Earlier this year, officials sought the public's help locating Maria Montgomery and Patrick Buxton for questioning in a death investigation connected to an incident at the Deluxe Inn on Gordon Highway, WJBF reported at the time.
No information has been released identifying who was shot in Thursday's incident or describing the extent of any injuries. It also remains unclear whether Ivey has since been located or taken into custody. Anyone with information is urged to reach the Richmond County Sheriff's Office using the numbers provided above.
