An Aurora family lost their home Tuesday afternoon after a fire sent one adult to the hospital. Two adults and one child were displaced by the blaze in the 1000 block of South Elkhart Way.

Aurora Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene after multiple people called 911 to report the fire, according to KDVR. A child was reported missing during the fire.

Crews called a second alarm as they worked the scene, but that call was canceled once the fire was brought under control. One adult was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation and was expected to recover, the outlet reported.

Another Colorado Kitchen Fire

A kitchen fire in Colorado Springs on Oct. 7 displaced one person who was treated for smoke inhalation, with water used to fight the flames causing substantial damage to that residence, according to The Gazette.

Aurora itself has had a rough stretch of fire calls recently. A house fire on Vassar Avenue on Oct. 10 seriously injured one person and displaced four residents after flames that began in a garage with a vehicle inside spread to the home's second level and attic, as reported by The Denver Post. And back in February, a cooking-related fire caused significant damage to a south Aurora home and displaced two adults and two children, with investigators classifying that blaze as accidental and tied to cooking, according to Sentinel Colorado.

Separate Apartment Fire Also Hit Aurora

The Elkhart Way blaze is unrelated to a separate, larger apartment fire that caused major damage elsewhere in Aurora. That two-alarm fire damaged 23 units at The Preserve at City Center, displacing around 50 residents, with one firefighter treated for heat exhaustion and no resident injuries reported, according to CBS Colorado. Aurora Fire Rescue responded to that apartment complex near South Elkhart Way and South Evanston Way just before 3 p.m. on a Friday, per the same report.

Unattended cooking remains one of the most common triggers for residential fires nationally, a pattern tracked in loss data compiled by the National Fire Protection Association. For the family displaced Tuesday, the fast response from Aurora Fire Rescue appears to have kept a frightening afternoon from turning into a tragedy, with the missing child located safely and the fire contained within minutes of crews arriving on scene.
