An Austin nightlife company has taken its beef with a rival event promoter to federal court, accusing him of using a gossipy parody social media account to spread rumors that could sink its business. Imagine Not Being Us LLC, which operates under the brand name Invite Only, filed the lawsuit against fellow Austin event organizer Umar Brimah on Oct. 17.

The lawsuit alleges business disparagement, unfair competition and false advertising, according to KXAN Austin. At the center of the dispute is the Instagram account Real Housewives of Austin, which the lawsuit alleges Brimah runs. The account features event flyers, nightlife memes, and photos and videos from parties and downtown Austin, per the outlet's reporting.

The complaint claims Brimah held animosity toward Imagine Not Being Us and, starting in 2025, published false statements about the company and its business in order to divert customers toward his own competing events. One specific post cited in the filing is a flyer captioned “the cover your drinks edition,” on which the names of everyone except the plaintiff's organizers were allegedly obscured.

Allegations Include Epstein List Reference, Assault Rumors

Among the more explosive claims in the suit: Brimah allegedly suggested in posts that a principal of Imagine Not Being Us and his associates were notorious for allegedly having sex with underage women, and separately said the plaintiff's organizers were interested in teenage girls. The company's organizers deny committing any sexual offense, the same reporting states.

The lawsuit also alleges Brimah posted in a group chat that a principal of the plaintiff was “not behaving like someone who would appear on the epstein list,” and claims he originated assault rumors that other people in Austin's nightlife circles later repeated and asked about. Imagine Not Being Us has pushed back on related claims as well, stating through the lawsuit that it does not drug patrons at its events and that its events are not unsafe.

No Screenshots Filed Yet, Attorney Says

Notably, the filing itself does not include screenshots or links to the statements it describes as defamatory. The plaintiff's attorney declined to share photos with KXAN but told the station that images would be filed with the court at the appropriate time, and the lawsuit states that the company intends to obtain some of the posts in question during discovery.

The suit further claims Brimah sought to influence Austin consumers to withhold business from Imagine Not Being Us and instead patronize his own competing events, and alleges his statements potentially harmed the company's business. It also claims he made similar disparaging statements to others in the local nightlife industry, and cites what it describes as evidence of similar disputes between Brimah and other Austin nightlife promoters, venues, brands and industry participants, though no independent details of those earlier conflicts were provided.

Parody Account Behind the Posts

The Real Housewives of Austin account itself, on Threads, describes itself as “a parody series following some of the most affluent hooligans in Austin as they enjoy the lavish and dramatic lifestyle that only atx can provide.” Its posts otherwise skew toward typical nightlife content, including shoutouts about seeing “y'all's smiling faces on first thursday” and reminders about local events.

For his part, Brimah has said his focus remains on bringing the Austin community together, according to the station's report. KXAN said it plans to cover any response he files with the court as the case moves forward.
