Austin is starting Saturday with clear skies and temperatures in the low 60s, but the calm morning will give way to a hot afternoon. The high is expected to reach about 93 degrees under full sunshine, with little wind and no rain in the forecast. An air quality alert also makes the afternoon a better time to pace outdoor plans.
Sunny Skies, Light Winds And A Hot Afternoon
Temperatures will climb quickly through the morning, reaching the upper 80s by early afternoon and peaking near 93 degrees later in the day. Winds are expected to shift to southeasterly Saturday.
Saturday night should stay mostly clear, with a low near 67 degrees. Sunday is expected to bring increasing cloudiness and humidity.
Ozone Action Day Set for Saturday
An Ozone Action Day is in effect Saturday, October 10, because sunny skies, warm temperatures and light winds can help ozone pollution build across the Austin area. People with asthma, respiratory conditions, older adults and children may want to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
Travis County recommends choosing lighter outdoor activities, avoiding vehicle idling and postponing gas-powered lawn work until after 6 p.m. Austin's Air Quality Program also advises sensitive residents to reduce outdoor exposure when ozone levels are elevated.
Hotter Workweek Before A Late-Week Shift
The heat will linger into the workweek, with Monday near 93 and a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday could reach about 95 degrees, while humidity rises and afternoon heat index values may climb into the 100s.
Isolated to scattered showers and storms are possible during the workweek. Friday is expected to be dry, with highs in the upper 80s or 90s.
