AutoZone is preparing a 7,128-square-foot store at 1101 NE Green Oaks Blvd. in Arlington, with construction tentatively scheduled for August through October 2027. The auto parts retailer has not announced an opening date for the location.
The project is tied to a filing AutoZone made with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, according to WhatNow, which reports that AutoZone plans to remodel the 7,128 square feet of space at that address. The outlet says it reached out to AutoZone for additional information on the project.
It's not the only AutoZone project to pop up in Arlington recently. A separate store at 2532 W. Division Street completed construction in the spring, adding 6,796 square feet of new retail space, according to a project record from zabalist.com. That record does not confirm a business opening date or operating hours for the Division Street location, and the two Arlington projects appear to be distinct filings.
A Growing Footprint in North Texas
The Division Street build was first reported in February 2025, when AutoZone was planning a $1.28 million retail store at that address, according to the same project record. At the time, the facility's start date was set for September 8 with completion expected by January 9, 2026, though the project ultimately wrapped in April 2026, per zabalist.com's account. The estimated construction cost of $1,270,984 came in above the Tarrant County median of $800,000 for new-construction filings, while its square footage landed below the county's median of 8,184 square feet for similar projects, the site notes.
Arlington already had a solid AutoZone presence before either project broke ground. As of February 2025, the city had eight AutoZone locations and neighboring Grand Prairie had two, according to AutoZone's own website figures cited in a report from Fort Worth Report. Texas as a whole had roughly 714 AutoZone stores as of January 2025 — about 11% of the chain's national total — based on data from ScrapeHero cited in that same report.
What a New AutoZone Typically Carries
Whatever shape the Green Oaks Boulevard project eventually takes, it would likely follow the same model as other AutoZone locations. The chain sells replacement parts and maintenance products for cars, SUVs, vans and light-duty trucks, with inventory that includes batteries, brakes, engine oil, filters, spark plugs, wiper blades, tools and accessories.
AutoZone stores also typically offer battery testing and installation, check-engine-light diagnostics, tool loans and recycling services. Company materials describe these as part of a broader set of in-store offerings that includes free battery testing and charging, Fix Finder diagnostic services and the Loan-A-Tool program, according to a release from about.autozone.com. The company has said it does not derive revenue from automotive repair or installation services.
From a Single Arkansas Store to a National Chain
AutoZone's roots trace back to a single store that opened as Auto Shack on July 4, 1979, in Forrest City, Arkansas, per the same AutoZone release. The company adopted the AutoZone name in 1987 and has since grown into one of the largest auto parts retailers in the country.
That growth has continued at a rapid clip. AutoZone now operates more than 8,000 stores across the U.S., Mexico and Brazil — as of late August 2026, the company counted 6,863 stores in the U.S., 1,001 in Mexico and 167 in Brazil, for a total of 8,031, according to the same source. AutoZone celebrated opening its 8,000th store in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on September 10, 2026, and the company also opened its 1,000th Mexico location during fiscal 2026, per a separate report from bizjournals.com. The chain's net sales grew from $18.94 billion to $20.34 billion year over year in that same fiscal period, that report notes.
For now, the Green Oaks Boulevard project remains in the planning stage, with construction tentatively penciled in for 2027 and no word yet on when — or if — Arlington shoppers can expect a grand opening.
