A fast-growing indoor golf chain is planting its flag inside Loop 610 for the second time, with plans for a nearly 3,000-square-foot training facility on Southwest Freeway in Upper Kirby. Construction on the Back Nine Golf location is expected to begin in early November and wrap up in January 2027, though the timeline could shift as the project moves forward.

The new concept, first reported by Community Impact Newspaper, will occupy 2,953 square feet at 3800 Southwest Freeway, Suite 136, inside a retail center that also houses a Starbucks, a med spa, a dental office and several restaurants. The renovation will transform an existing space within that center, and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has listed it as a $350,000 project. Community Impact notes that project details remain subject to change as plans progress.

Back Nine Golf operates as a membership-based business offering an indoor, climate-controlled golf simulator experience, according to the same report. The facility is built around 250 virtual golf courses along with virtual driving range practice and mini-games, giving players of all ages and experience levels a place to work on their game regardless of weather.

What Back Nine Golf's Tech Actually Tracks

The simulators run on Trackman technology and Tiger Woods' Full Swing system, and the simulator bays track ball speed, launch angle and club path as golfers swing. At the company's Houston Heights location, Back Nine Golf advertises that golfers can get real-time feedback on your swing, ball speed, launch angle, and more. That Heights outpost, which the company describes as a 24/7 indoor golf experience with simulators, lessons, leagues and private events, debuted late last year, per the same Community Impact report.

Membership is the backbone of the business model, with pricing reportedly ranging from $219 to $499 per month depending on the plan, according to the company's website as cited by Community Impact. The Birdie tier, which the company calls its most popular choice on its site, includes 24/7 facility access, two-hour tee times, up to three free guests, discounted merchandise and 50% off tournament fees. For golfers who don't want to commit to a membership, Back Nine Golf's Houston Heights location lists walk-in tee times starting at $75 an hour.

A Rapid Houston-Area Build-Out

The Upper Kirby facility would be Back Nine Golf's second location inside Loop 610 as the chain continues a broader expansion that Community Impact reports has unfolded across Greater Houston over the past two years. In 2026 alone, the company opened locations in New Caney, Shenandoah and Kingwood, adding to earlier sites in Memorial, Spring and Tomball, as previously reported by the Houston Chronicle. The Chronicle also notes that members can use cross-play features to compete against golfers worldwide, adding a social layer to the simulator setup.

The Shenandoah location, confirmed open by owner Fernando Mladineo in a report from Community Impact, occupies a 3,000-square-foot building — close in size to what's planned for Upper Kirby. Meanwhile, the Kingwood site at 2815 W. Lake Houston Parkway, Suite 100, was expected to open this fall, according to owner Rooter Chandler's confirmation to Community Impact in a separate report.

More Locations Still in the Pipeline

Back Nine Golf isn't slowing down. A Fulshear location at 6601 Skyline Drive, Suite 60, was scheduled to begin construction on January 22, 2026, and was expected to finish by March, according to the Chronicle, joining what the chain described as 10 other Greater Houston locations at the time, not far from an existing Katy site at 1443 S Mason Road, Suite B. Further out, the company is also preparing a La Porte location at 3525 Canada Road, Suite B2 B — a 2,060-square-foot buildout that franchise owner Brendon Lee hopes to open by the end of the year, according to What Now Houston, which also notes the brand already has locations across the United States, including numerous sites throughout Texas.

With the Upper Kirby project still in its early stages, exact membership perks, hours and pricing for the new Southwest Freeway location haven't been detailed. For now, Houston golfers inside the Loop will have to wait for construction to wrap before finding out whether the new facility mirrors the Birdie membership and other offerings available at Back Nine Golf's existing locations around the city.
