Bakri Coffee and Roasters is building its fifth location in the former Sky Crepe Bistro space at 7120 Schaefer Road in Dearborn, and owner Ali Bakri is hoping to get the doors open around mid-November. Construction is still underway on the shop, which is planned to include a drive-thru and what the company describes as an entirely new Bakri experience.
The timeline isn't locked in, but signage has already gone up at the site, according to WhatNow. The new Bakri Bistro & Cafe will sit on the east side of Schaefer Road at West Warren Avenue, joining a stretch of restaurants that includes Aldaar, Iraqi Kabob and Al's Grill, per the outlet's reporting.
From Online Orders to a Growing Storefront Footprint
Bakri Coffee's rise to five locations traces back to much humbler beginnings. The company started as an online coffee sales business before expanding into catering, and it didn't open its first brick-and-mortar shop until 2025, the same report notes. That first physical location has since multiplied into a four-shop operation, with two locations currently in Dearborn and one in Sterling Heights.
The closest existing shop to the new Schaefer Road build is the Bakri Coffee & Bakery location at 25093 Michigan Avenue, which offers crafted drinks alongside sandwiches and baked goods, according to a listing on joe.coffee. Company founder Ali Bakri has roasted coffee for roughly 30 years, his daughter Amal Bakri told MLive, and the business sources its beans from around the world while roasting them in-house.
What's on the Menu
Shoppers at existing Bakri locations can expect the new shop to carry familiar staples. The menu includes iced lattes, refreshers, matchas, s'mores cookies, chocolate chip muffins and iced lemon loaves, with the coffees made in-house. Per MLive's reporting, the chain's single top seller across its stores isn't a centuries-old espresso preparation at all — it's the brown sugar shaken espresso.
Dearborn's Crowded Coffee Scene
The Schaefer Road build arrives as Dearborn leans into its reputation as a coffee destination. The city had more than 45 coffee shops as of 2026, MLive reported, reflecting just how fast the local scene has expanded. Bakri's own trajectory fits that pattern: the company's original Dearborn location opened about a year before MLive's October report, and the business has since expanded to Sterling Heights with more growth already planned.
For now, the fifth location remains under construction, and the November target is just that — a target, not a confirmed date. The company has said it will update the community about the new location through its social media channels as progress continues.
