The &pizza shop that's anchored a corner of Ballston Quarter since 2017 has gone dark, with handwritten signs on the door declaring it closed until further notice. The shop is expected to reopen soon, although no specific calendar date has been stated, and the closure leaves Arlington without a single location of the build-your-own pizza chain.

The signs at 3924 Wilson Blvd. had been up for several days before tipsters flagged the closure to ARLnow, which first reported that the restaurant had shut its doors, at least for the time being. Google now lists the location as temporarily closed, even though it remains listed on &pizza's own website, according to the same report.

The Ballston shop opened in late 2017 and had operated almost continuously ever since, per ARLnow's reporting. It also closed during the pandemic for about a week to accommodate a surge in takeout demand, the outlet noted.

Arlington Left Without Any &pizza Locations

With the Ballston storefront dark, Arlington no longer has an operating &pizza, since the shop was the only one currently listed in the county, the station's report found. That marks a steep fall for a chain that once had multiple footholds in the area.

An &pizza location in Rosslyn closed in 2024, and a spot at Reagan National Airport also shut down that year, according to PoPville as cited in the same account. The Rosslyn shop, at 1800 N. Lynn Street, had opened in 2021 and spent three years in business before closing, and the space remained vacant months later, ARLnow reported separately.

&pizza still maintains three other locations in Alexandria, one in Seven Corners, and seven locations in Washington, D.C., per the same ARLnow account. The chain opened its Seven Corners shop at 6108 Arlington Blvd. in March 2021, according to Alexandria Living Magazine, part of a broader expansion push the chain was making across the Alexandria area that year.

A Chain With Roots Dating Back to 2012

&pizza was founded in Washington, D.C. in 2012 and had grown to dozens of locations across several East Coast states by 2021, Alexandria Living Magazine reported. The Ballston shop, per the chain's own location page, sits in Ballston Quarter on Wilson Boulevard and had kept late hours, staying open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

A spokesperson told ARLnow that the Ballston shop closed for electrical repairs and is expected to reopen soon. ARLnow said it had reached out to &pizza for comment on the closure.
