The Colony, a master-planned community in Bastrop, opened its newest amenity center, the Treehouse, the week of Labor Day, beating its original construction timeline so residents could enjoy a new 5,000-square-foot pool and shaded patio while the Texas heat still lingered. The early finish capped months of work on a project developer Hunt Communities had planned as a centerpiece addition to the growing neighborhood off Sam Houston Drive.

Why Builders Hurried the Opening

According to Community Impact, Hunt Communities made it a priority to complete the Treehouse construction early. Joey Najera said the builder pushed to open the amenity center sooner so residents could swim while it was still hot, a detail included in the same report. The patio area is also getting outdoor grills installed, giving residents another gathering spot once the pool deck empties out for the evening.

The Treehouse joins a lineup of amenity centers that already includes Lakehouse and Prairie Vista, rounding out what the community describes as a network of connected trails, parks, pools and gathering spaces. Beyond the pool itself, the community's homeowners association team and lifestyle coordinator help run a packed calendar, including pickleball and fishing tournaments, Easter egg hunts, pumpkin patches, and monthly community markets featuring local artisans and food vendors. Residents also get pool parties timed to Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.

Trading Post Food Truck Site Takes Shape

Just down the road, the community broke ground on phase one of a different kind of gathering spot during the summer: the Trading Post, a planned food truck site adjacent to Lakehouse Park and its pavilion. The site, situated across from a neighborhood park and catty-corner to Colony Oaks Elementary School, is designed to serve the broader community as a rest stop for coffee, walks and live music, per the same report. It will feature two food truck areas with permanent utility hookups, along with seating, overhead festoon lighting and trail connections to nearby amenities, and it is targeted to open in the first quarter of 2027.

The Trading Post's planning follows an earlier concept for a similar food truck park at the intersection of Sam Houston Drive and Plumbago Loop, which Community Impact reported in August 2025 was estimated to cost $200,000 and would include a pavilion and picnic tables, though no construction start date had been set at that time.

Holiday Events and a Returning Light Display

The Colony is also gearing up for its winter calendar. A Trail of Lights will open to the public at Lakehouse Park in November, marking its second annual year, and Winter Fest is set for December 11, complete with a planned visit from a live reindeer, according to the same report.

Growth Across an Expanding Community

The Colony now counts nine active homebuilders as of September, spanning both its established gated section and the newer New Colony section, and includes an active adult section by Del Webb alongside homes built for other stages of life. Builder incentives are currently available across the community, which sits near H-E-B, Chuy's and Texas Roadhouse, and within reach of major employers including SpaceX, the Boring Company, Tesla, Samsung's Taylor campus and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The community is zoned to Bastrop ISD.

The Colony, developed by Hunt Communities and located at 630 Sam Houston Dr. in Bastrop, can be reached at 737-266-2056 or through its website at colonytx.com for residents and prospective buyers looking to learn more about the Treehouse, the Trading Post or upcoming community events.
