Houston is waking up to light rain, fog and muggy conditions Friday, with temperatures near 75 degrees early in the morning. More showers and thunderstorms are expected through the day, and the weather turns substantially wetter again this weekend.
Flood Watch Covers Houston Through Friday Evening
A Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening for Houston and parts of Southeast Texas. The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston says heavy downpours could produce rapid runoff, especially in low-lying areas, streets and locations with poor drainage.
Rain chances increase from the late morning into the afternoon, with thunderstorms most likely from early afternoon into the evening. Friday’s high is expected to reach about 88 degrees, while winds stay light from the east and northeast.
Weekend Storms Bring A Wetter Outlook
Saturday looks stormy across the Houston area, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 86 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms could continue Saturday night, when the low is expected to settle around 75 degrees.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely again Sunday, with a 70% rain chance and a cooler high near 82 degrees. Forecasters say the heaviest rain potential over the weekend may focus along the coast, but additional downpours could still create localized flooding around Houston and other parts of Southeast Texas.
Drier Air Arrives Early Next Week
Rain chances ease Monday, with a high near 83 degrees and only a slight chance of storms. Tuesday brings a noticeable change: mostly sunny skies, a high near 85 degrees and a low around 70, with mostly clear and sunny conditions expected to continue into Wednesday and Thursday.
Anyone traveling Friday through Sunday should allow extra time, avoid driving through flooded roads and stay alert for updated warnings. Even a short burst of very heavy rain could cause water to collect quickly in flood-prone parts of the city.
