A man was hospitalized after being shot at a bar in Baytown early Monday morning, and the suspect who pulled the trigger is still on the run. Baytown police responded to the shooting around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of West Texas Avenue, at Texas Billiards Club, where officers found one victim and no other reported injuries.
According to houstonstringer.com, the confrontation began when a male suspect arrived at the bar and approached a female bartender. Surveillance video captured him later speaking with the male victim near the business's rear door, as reported by Click2Houston. Police said the victim tried to get the suspect to leave the location.
Gunfire In The Rear Parking Lot
That attempt to get the suspect out the door turned violent. The suspect pulled out a weapon and shot the victim. Houston Stringer reported that he displayed a pistol and fired at the man in the rear parking lot. The victim was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann for treatment, though his condition has not been released.
Police had limited information available as the case developed. The suspect remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing, with no other injuries reported from the shooting.
A Pattern Of Bar-Area Violence In Baytown
This is not the first time gunfire has erupted near a Baytown business in the early morning hours. On September 29, 2022, a multiple-shooting incident on the 2500 block of Massey Tompkins Road led investigators to conclude the shooter had acted in self-defense, and no charges were filed, according to the Baytown Sun. The city's police department maintains a public crime-statistics page that it says reflects its focus on keeping crime reduction a priority, according to the City of Baytown.
For now, the man shot outside Texas Billiards Club remains hospitalized with an unreleased condition, and the gunman who fled the scene remains at large. Baytown police have not said what sparked the initial exchange between the bartender, the suspect and the victim, and the investigation continues.
