Beabadoobee is rolling into Orlando with a noticeably louder, heavier sound than the one that made her a bedroom-pop favorite. Her Powerlines Tour stops at Addition Financial Arena on Oct. 13, bringing songs from her new record Pylon.
A Fourth Album That Turns Up the Distortion
Pylon, released Sept. 18, marks Beabadoobee's fourth studio album, put out through Dirty Hit and Interscope Records, as OnesToWatch reports. The record leans into classic grunge, midwest emo and 1990s radio rock, aiming for a sound that is both more intense and more direct than anything she has released before, according to her Bandcamp page. That same page notes the album was written while she was on the road supporting her previous record, This Is How Tomorrow Moves.
The shift tracks with what The Guardian has long observed about her music: a sound rooted in 90s alt-rock, grunge and its American indie offshoots, shoegaze and Elliott Smith, all filtered through a pop sensibility. In its review of Pylon, the outlet pointed out that Beabadoobee's biggest hit to date, her collaboration with Canadian rapper Powfu called Death Bed (Coffee for Your Head), has racked up more than 2 billion streams.
A Star-Studded Guest List
Pylon features a notable lineup of collaborators, including Hayley Williams, Turnstile's Brendan Yates, Pinegrove's Evan Stephens Hall, Deftones' Chino Moreno and Title Fight's Shane Moran, per The FADER. It is the kind of guest roster that signals just how far Beabadoobee has moved from her early bedroom-pop sound into heavier rock territory, incorporating what In Music Blog describes as heavier guitars and more direct songwriting.
Beabadoobee was born in the Philippines and raised in London. Her 2024 album This Is How Tomorrow Moves topped the UK chart.
Her First Arena Run, With Wisp Opening
The Powerlines Tour represents Beabadoobee's first run of arena shows across North America, the UK and Europe, according to The FADER. It officially kicked off Oct. 1 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, her first headline arena show, per the same account, before continuing on to arenas including Madison Square Garden, the Kia Forum and London's O2.
Wisp, the stage name of 21-year-old San Francisco-raised singer-songwriter and guitarist Natalie Lu, opens all 18 U.S. and Canada dates on the tour, OnesToWatch reports, including the Orlando stop at Addition Financial Arena. Beabadoobee has supported Taylor Swift. The Guardian notes that Pylon arrived in the wake of her support slot on Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.
